My Coworkers Think They're Funny

When I showed up to work this morning, my coworkers had decked out my desk in honor of my birthday (tomorrow) and my recent run in with Satan.

Kitty Litter Cake - yes, its even in a litter box (cleaned they tell me) with poop and pee to taste.

Cat toys, a book, Hello Kitty and a birthday kitten toy.

And of course an evil cat card that reads "Birthdays are probably necessary. But every damn year!?"

Good thing I have a sense of humor and my wrist is feeling a bit better today. Still no feeling in my fingers, but I'm starting to get used to it.

Friday the 13th!

Friday the 13th and I'm in a great mood. Its been an awesome few weeks at work - I'm closing loans like its going out of style, but trust me, its not! "If closing loans is cool, consider me Miles Davis!"

Besides that, BDR and I have been together for 1 year! We are celebrating tomorrow night and if all the crooks in Leawood behave, he'll get the night off!

11 mile run in the morning, means Powerade has been my BFF today. After a delicious sushi dinner last night with my best girlfriends (sans the newly engaged!), I've got a happy belly today.

Very random post, I know, but I'm sitting here smiling and wanted you all to know!

KCMG and ME

6 weeks in and going strong.

I haven't written much about work so I thought I'd fill everyone in.

Days have been filled with cold calls, networking, quoting and learning, learning, learning! There are so many laws and rules that we mortgage brokers have to abide by. Apparently it makes things a lot more complicated than it used to be, but luckily it's harder to get people in bad situations - at least, that's the goal.

My biggest successes so far: winning my first deal and passing the National Mortgage Licensing Exam on the FIRST try!!

So here's a look into the Kansas City Mortgage Group...

Marketing guru Mike. He handles all the stuff that brings in the business. And, he stuffs envelopes.

Theresa sits at the front desk, welcomes everyone with a smile or a laugh and does a bunch of the admin stuff that we crazy salespeople aren't good at doing. Like scheduling and organizing. And making the coffee and tea in the morning.

Aaron is the COO / Jack of all Trades. He's been the one that has been teaching me pretty much everything about mortgages. He does it all, including taking apart my computer and adding more memory/making me push F1 every time I restart the computer. Still not sure why...

This is Jason. Hard at work on the phones trying to get some deals. Calls regularly come in and if you haven't grabbed it by the middle of the first ring, Jason already has it.

Lastly is the view I had. Yes, that's had... I've since moved across the hall. Away from the tree-top view, but I now have more than double the desk space, so I can't really complain too much.

I'm loving the work, my co-workers and the autonomy of this new career. If any of you out there in bloggy land are interested in purchasing or refinancing - I'm your girl!

I'm SO EXCITED to share my big news! I have begun a new endeavor as a Mortgage Consultant with the Kansas City Mortgage Group.

Finding this position was one of those karma things I think. A contact of my oldest brother used LinkedIn to seek out a new hire. We met a few times and discussed the job, company, culture, etc. And I first sat down with him just for interview experience. But the more I learned, the more intrigued I became. Its a job where I can essentially be my own boss, create my own destiny, and help people all at the same time. Its pretty much ideal. Plus, meeting the rest of the team left a great taste in my mouth and as we all know, first impressions are pretty important.

The mortgage world is definitely different than where I'd been previously. (But really, construction and non-profit are unique monsters in their own regard!) I know that my experiences are totally going to translate to success as a mortgage consultant. And - if I learned anything from completing the Ironman last September, it’s that determination and a positive attitude will allow you to achieve anything you set your mind to.

One of the coolest things about my new company is the people I'm working with. Everyone is so friendly, welcoming and helpful - and there is a ton of knowledge here. They have more than 50 years of combined experience, and for a young company that is amazing. For the second straight year, KCMG has been named by the Kansas City Business Journal as one of the Top 25 Mortgage Brokers in Kansas City. And now, I get to be a part of that.

One of my first tasks was to get fingerprinted (TGO would be proud!) and get my official photograph done. It was pretty fun to be ANTM for an afternoon. Tyra would be proud. Here's my favorite:

I'm able to do loans in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and Colorado - so if any of you out in bloggy world are looking for a new home or to refinance your current loan - get in touch! You can email me at trish(at)kcmortgage.com.

I also just sent out a big announcement letter. If you didn't get one, and want it - please let me know!
